What is a Dietitian (RD)?
A dietitian is a health professional who has attained a degree in
foods and nutrition, and has completed a one year internship. Registration
with The College of Dietitians of Ontario is mandatory to use the
term "Registered Dietitian", or the designation "RD".
In Ontario, the term "nutritionist' is an unprotected title,
and can be used by anyone to describe their involvement in a food-related
practice. When you are looking for nutrition advice and counsel,
a Registered Dietitian is the professional choice.
What is a Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE)?
A Certified Diabetes Educator is a health professional who has significant
experience working in diabetes. There is a certification exam every
5 years to ensure current knowledge and practice in diabetes education.
New research is changing the management of diabetes on an annual
basis. Living with diabetes can be made easier with the assistance
of a Diabetes Educator. A Certified Diabetes Educator can help the
person with diabetes be aware of the new findings, and how they
apply to each individual's situation.
The Benefit of Having a Personal Dietitian
Changing longstanding habits is a challenge. People who are successful
in making lifestyle changes often make several attempts at the change
before they reach their goal. A personal coach will help to assess
the risks you face, and to guide you through the common pitfalls.
Sandi will collaboratively help to identify high-risk situations,
and using solution-focused counselling strategies, facilitate the
development of plans to manage them.
Any break in routine makes maintaining a new behaviour more difficult.
Regular follow up and relapse prevention will help you to maintain
lifestyle changes. As your personal dietitian Sandi will work with
you and your physician to help you achieve optimal health.
